The Quality of Business Analysis Work

Business analysis work is done well when the analyzed solution, model, or feature has been examined from all angles, ensuring the analysis is comprehensive and not one-sided.

Imagine a cube—the analyst's task is not just to focus on one side and analyze it thoroughly, but to step back, examine it from all six sides, see it in its entirety, and understand its relationship with other objects. In other words, analyze the cube itself, its position in space, and its connections with other objects.

To achieve this comprehensive analysis, the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge provides us with the framework called BACCM. It is a simple yet effective way to analyze the necessary change, software, or requirement from all angles, giving the analysis depth and completeness.

BACCM stands for the Business Analysis Core Concept Model and covers six core concepts:

  • Change: What is it that should be changed?

  • Need: What problem or opportunity are we trying to address?

  • Solution: What ways to satisfy this problem are available?

  • Stakeholders: Who are the relevant people involved in this process?

  • Context: What circumstances do we currently have? Which circumstances influence or are influenced by the problem we are trying to solve?

  • Value: What worth, importance, or usefulness are we aiming to get or create?

Try using the BACCM framework in your analysis to see the full picture and not just one side of a cube.
