The Quality of Business Analysis Work

Generally stakeholders focus on the quality of the development work, the quality of the solution that is being built, probably, the quality of the feedback that is being provided by end-users and customers. But how about the quality of a business analyst’s work? How can we measure it, enhance it, and value it?


As a business analyst plays a crucial role in an initiative, it is highly important that certain KPIs are introduced and are well known to the business analyst, that the work results are reviewed on the regular basis and structured feedback is shared as well as the performance improvements are identified.


When focusing on the quality of the business analysis work the following key points may be considered:

  1. Delivering work within predefined timelines, avoiding unnecessary delays;

  2. The number of revisions to the work products the business analyst has to make before the stakeholder’s approval is received;

  3. Ability to select the most well-suited technique in each situation and not using one and the same over and over again;

  4. Consistency and the absence of contradictions in the business analysis work results;

  5. Consistently following industry notations and standards;

  6. The ability to understand the produced business analysis work results and use them further without the extensive explanations;

  7. The ability to understand the root causes of the problems, needs and issues and propose relevant solutions.
