Organizational Change Management: A Threat Or An Opportunity?

Organizations are facing changes continuously and those changes may be represented as the introduction of the new software in the organization, automating some business processes, the organizational merge or acquisition, the change of the business rules and compliance to new legislation.

Whatever the change is, the process of successful change management is the same and embraces a set of important stages that have to be accomplished in order to achieve the change goals on time and in full value.

Part of this successful change management process is creating desire to participate in the change and support the change.

The desire is the individual’s decision and it can be formed only after the awareness about why the change is happening has been formulated and comprehended.

Change leaders and company top management should actively participate in building that desire in employees.

Once the employees are aware of the change, they will naturally question themselves:

  1. How will the change impact me?

  2. What is in this change for me?

  3. Is it a threat or an opportunity?

The answers to these questions will be formed based on their assumptions and observations if not addressed through an open, clear and transparent communication. ANd those assuptions may be very far from the truth which may lead to strong change resistance if not addressed by people managers and company leadership.
