"Before we build cars, we build people" — The Toyota Way

The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®) is built on four core values, one of which is Respect for People.

Every enterprise wants its customers to feel respected and valued, fostering long-term relationships that lead to continuous engagement. However, this respect should start within the organization itself. It’s challenging to create a customer-centered culture if respect isn’t actively promoted among employees and leaders.

The following practices help cultivate and reinforce this core value:

  • Establish and Promote Working Agreements: These should be visible, accessible, and regularly communicated. Revisit them periodically as the environment and context change, ensuring agreements remain relevant and meaningful.

  • Create Communities of Practice: Provide teams and professionals with a space to share experiences, seek advice, and strengthen mentoring and coaching skills.

  • Treat Colleagues as Consumers: Even those not traditionally recognized as consumers rely on your day-to-day work results. Make sure you consistently provide high-quality outputs.

  • Keep Leadership Engaged: Hold regular meetings to communicate vision, mission, strategy, and near-term goals, keeping everyone aligned and moving in the same direction.

SAFe® equips companies to adapt, compete, and thrive in a changing landscape.
